About Us

Who are you?
My name is Shanae. I'm the founder of Sadie's Safe House Chihuahua Rescue and the current organization President.

Well, then who is Sadie? (Fun fact: She loved broccoli!)
Sadie was my beloved best friend, and on March 5th, 2025, I said goodbye as she passed from complications of renal failure. I adopted her from Oregon Friends of Shelter Animals on April 18th, 2013, and from that moment on, we were inseparable for nearly 12 wonderful years. She traveled tens of thousands of miles by my side and was there with me through every chapter of life.

Sadie had a gentle way of touching lives—helping me care for orphaned kittens and puppies, offering comfort to countless people and animals, attending Special Olympics Oregon for several years as a support animal, and just generally filling every space with love. Her legacy continues in every animal that finds safety and care through us. Though she is no longer physically here, her spirit remains a guiding light in all we do.

Why Sadie's Safe House?
Sadie’s Safe House was founded in March 2018 with a simple dream: to give the most vulnerable animals a chance. While many organizations focus on the young, healthy, and easily adoptable pets, I saw how often the older, injured, and differently-abled animals were overlooked. Between crowded shelters, neglectful situations, and the heartbreaking realities that come with rescue work, I knew there was a need I could help meet.

Rescue is often compared to “emptying the ocean with a teaspoon.” While we may not be able to change the entire world, we can change the world for each animal we save. And when those animals find loving homes, they, in turn, bring healing and joy to the families who welcome them. For us, rescue isn’t about recognition—it’s about doing what’s right, even when no one is watching, and finding fulfillment in the quiet, immeasurable reward of knowing a life has been made whole again.
